Do you think that our mindset should be Cradle to Cradle instead of Cradle to Grave? Have you been inspired lately by a green read that you'd like to share? Join us June 10th as we kick off our first sustainable book club event at Riverfront Pizza in the 3rd Ward. We want to welcome everyone who is interested in exploring the ideas of sustainability and exchanging their thoughts concerning the future of design. Our meetings will focus on books that have changed the way we look at the design of the world and inspire us to reshape our future in an ecologically effective manner.
Our first book is Massive Change by Bruce Mau. This book, says Mau (who founded the Institute Without Boundaries), is "not about the world of design; it's about the design of the world." In the words of Publishers Weekly, Massive Change "is part Apple ad, part Powerpoint presentation and part architectural pastiche," that "reads, intentionally, like a friendly corporate prospectus or catalogue, except that the "product" on offer is a radically hopeful vision of the future...this book offers a vision of the world in a package designed to get readers excited about stoves that burn peanut shells, superlight gels that can protect flowers from flame, and plants and microbes that turn open sewers into water supplies. It succeeds beautifully."
This event is associated with The AIGA Center for Sustainable Design, whose objective is to encourage and support designers as they incorporate sustainable thinking into their professional lives. http://sustainability.aiga.org/
There is no cost for this event and it is open to both members and non members.
